Hershman Rights Management (HRM) was founded in 2015 to help authors and publishers break into new markets and expand into as many new platforms as possible.
We represent; indie and traditionally published authors, writers who aren’t yet published, publishers without in-house subsidiary rights specialists.
We give our client’s work the maximum exposure and monetization they deserve, helping them break into new markets specifically tailored to their own personal needs.
Sarah graduated from Mount Holyoke College, with a degree in English and History. Sarah immediately entered into the publishing world as an Acquisitions Assistant at Tantor Media (an imprint of Record Books) – a leading audiobook company located in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.
During her time at Tantor, Sarah successfully assisted the Acquisitions Department in their day-to-day routines and soon advanced to a Senior Acquisitions Editor. In this new role, Sarah’s focus was to seek and acquire audio rights from publishers, literary agents, or self-published authors. As part of her daily duties, Sarah executed the entire negotiation between the publisher, agent, or author and Tantor. This gave her a vast amount of knowledge about the publishing process, subsidiary rights negotiations, and how to work with professionals within the publishing industry. With several hundred audiobook contracts under her belt, many of the titles Sarah acquired for Tantor became award-winning titles.
Her favorite part of the job was working closely with authors and publishers to bring their audiobook vision to life. She found herself wanting to work closer with these authors to help expand their works into more of these ever-growing platforms. In July 2015, Sarah founded Hershman Rights Management (HRM) with the goal to help her authors maximize the usage of their subsidiary rights. Since opening HRM’s doors, Sarah has represented hundreds of authors and publishers in successful sales of their subsidiary rights. These deals expand across all formats, including audiobooks, foreign translations, e-book/print, and movie/television.
